Editing a Scenario

Summary: Scenarios that you define are not static; you can easily change them to reflect different assumptions or to contain updated values. This tip explains how to edit an existing scenario without affecting anything shown in the workbook. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 2000, Excel 2002, and Excel 2003.)

Once a scenario is saved, you can later edit it without the necessity of editing the worksheet and resaving the scenario. Instead, you use the Scenario Manager to do the editing. Follow these steps:

Choose Scenarios from the Tools menu. Excel displays the Scenario Manager. (Click here to see a related figure.)
Highlight the name of the scenario whose values you want to change.
Click on the Edit button. Excel displays the Edit Scenario dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
Change the name of the scenario, cell range it refers to, or any comments, as desired.
Click on the OK button. Excel displays the Scenario Values dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
Change the values stored in the scenario, as desired.
Click on the OK button. Your changes are saved and the Scenario Manager is again displayed.
Repeat steps 2 through 7 for any other scenarios you want to change.
Click on Close to dismiss the Scenario Manager.
