Deleting a Toolbar

Summary: After a time you may not need one of the custom toolbars you've created. This tip explains how to free up resources in Excel by getting rid of those unnecessary toolbars. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 2000, Excel 2002, and Excel 2003.)

Excel allows you to create your own custom toolbars, as described in the previous tip. After your toolbar has outlived its usefulness, you may want to delete it. You cannot delete the built-in toolbars used by Excel. Follow these steps:

  1. Choose Customize from the Tools menu. This displays the Customize dialog box.
  2. Make sure the Toolbars tab is selected. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. From the list of available toolbars, select the toolbar you want to delete.
  4. Click on the Delete button.
  5. You are asked to confirm your request to delete the toolbar. Click on OK to continue. The toolbar is removed.
  6. Repeat steps 3 through 5 for any other toolbars you want to delete.
  7. Click on Close.
