Moving a Worksheet

Summary: A couple of ways to move a worksheet in an Excel workbook. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 2000, Excel 2002, and Excel 2003.)

Often it is necessary to move a worksheet from one place to another in the same workbook. Excel makes this easy by following these steps:

  1. Make sure the worksheet you want to move is displayed.
  2. Choose Move or Copy Sheet from the Edit menu. This displays the Move or Copy dialog box. (Click here to see a related figure.)
  3. In the Before Sheet list, select the worksheet that should come after the worksheet you selected in step 1.
  4. Click on OK. The worksheets are reordered.

You can also move worksheets by simply clicking on the worksheet tab and dragging it left or right. (Don't forget that "dragging" is accomplished by holding down the mouse button as you move the mouse.) When you release the mouse button, the worksheet is moved to that location.
