Turning Off AutoFiltering

Summary: After you apply a filter to your data, you may wonder how to get rid of it so that you can once again see all your data. Use one of the simple methods described in this tip. (This tip works with Microsoft Excel 97, Excel 2000, Excel 2002, Excel 2003, and Excel 2007.)

Using the AutoFilter feature of Excel is a powerful way to review the data in a long list. At some point you may want to undo AutoFiltering. To undo filtering, you have these options:

  • Turn off the AutoFilter feature by selecting Filter from the Data menu and then AutoFilter from the submenu. (Works in versions of Excel prior to Excel 2007.)
  • Reset all filtering criteria by selecting Filter from the Data menu and then Show All from the submenu. (Works in versions of Excel prior to Excel 2007.)
  • Select the pull-down arrow for a field that has criteria set, and then choose the (All) option. (Works in versions of Excel prior to Excel 2007.)
  • Turn off the AutoFilter feature by displaying the Data tab of the ribbon and clicking Filter in the Sort & Filter group. (Works in Excel 2007.)
